So, I’m super excited to be on the roster with Q Moore for the Neo-Soul Extravaganza event!!! I am in the process of getting my first band together. This is a VERY excited process…and frustrating. I didn’t realize how hard it was *pulling out my hair* But, it has been a good deal for me. Everyone is down for the cause and ready to make some noise.

I get the call from Q Moore about a month ago asking me to perform at this event, and I’m like, HELLS YEA! So, time goes by and my life gets flipped, turned upside down, and I completely forget about the event. Thank goodness for facebook (I was tagged in a post that reminded me of the event…I have to do better. LOL). But anyway, I was super stoked, because I HAVE A BAND NOW!!! keys, drums, background singer and all that!!! Then I look again and see that it’s the Acoustic Edition. Oh well, I’ll still rock the house. Hopefully, you all can make it out!!!

Aaaah, 2012!!! I can’t believe it’s almost here. It seems like it was just 1999 (yea, right…I wish. LOL). I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. I will be at the desk getting my work on. What are your plans on this NYE night??? Let me live vicariously through you!!!

Jurni Rayne Unplugged at Studio 13 in San Antonio, TX!!!!

So, I’m super excited about my upcoming performance in SA this weekend!!! Big shout out to Tamara Smith and The WOP Experience for the opportunity to share my craft with you all! I must say that right now, there is a bit of anxiety trying to settle in because I just got back from Gatlinburg, TN…However, my guitar did not come back with me. YIKES!!! I am putting it in the universe that I will have Anise back in time for my flight to SA. No “otherwise” about it! I have been a busy Jurni bee! I haven’t updated anything since the contest!!! Well, here goes the updates:

Budweiser Opening Act – Houston, TX
I lost. Kinda. I didn’t win the contest, but I was in the top 10 out of thousands of people who submitted! And THAT is something to be proud of.  (Gotta find the positives in all situations, you feel me?) Anywho, now I can say that there is someone in Houston who has heard me sing who hadn’t heard me before.

Bartlett Old Town Festival – Bartlett, TX (north of Austin) 9/16
So,  after Houston, I decided to go to good ol Bartlett, TX. Now, I knew this was gonna be some country stuff, but it took me BACK! The festival was on the (not a) main street in downtown Bartlett. We had to grab a bite to eat, and fast because the ONLY restaurant there closed at 8pm. I was the only African American performer. I was there with my Black partner and our Thai friend. YAY Minorities!!! The people there were super friendly. The portion sizes on the food were GINORMOUS!!! Now for the performance. Of course I had to do at least one country song and I did a couple of originals. I was a crowd pleaser. Then as I’m getting off the stage, one lady yells, “GET BACK UP THERE AND SANG SOME HONKY TONK!” I don’t have honky tonk in my playlist. So, what I have learned from this is to be prepared and research the city so you can sing relevant music.

The Historic Victory Grill – Austin, TX 9/17
An organization called Allgo and Tim’m West put on a “Front Porch” Series/Open Mic. I absolutely LOVED this venue and they flow of the event.  I had another great performance and met some WONDERFUL people like Smut Stud who is one SICK (in a good way) producer. I do look forward to working with him in the near future!

Six Lounge – Austin, TX 9/17
After leaving Victory Grill, we headed over to Six Lounge to kick it with Risha Spratt who asked me to feature at her event. The ladies in Austin were very supportive and I appreciate them coming out to  listen to little old me!

Dyke Central Red Carpet Premiere – Oakland, CA – 10/6
I was very honored when Cole B Cole of Brown Boi Project asked me to perform at the Dyke Central Red Carpet Premiere. Dyke Central is an independent Bay Area lesbian TV show. They showed their premiere and a red carpet event and it was an OUTSTANDING turnout!!! So, now I can say that about 350 people in Oakland has heard Jurni Rayne!!! DOPE!
